The Tullamore distillery, which, it is planned, will now house a new visitor centre.

New visitor centre planned at Tullamore DEW distillery

William Grant & Sons has confirmed it is seeking planning permission to develop a visitor centre at the site of its Tullamore DEW distillery.

The move comes following the closure of the Tullamore DEW Visitor Centre in Bury Quay in September last year.

At the time the company indicated its plan to relocate the visitor centre experience to its whiskey distillery off the Tullamore bypass.

Earlier this month, the company signalled its intention to seek planning permission for the new visitor centre.

William Grant And Sons Irish Manufacturing Limited is to apply for permission for a change of use of the existing three-storey Three Sisters Administration Building of some 441.5 square metres to a visitor centre with shop.

In a statement to the Offaly Independent, the company confirmed the move.

“Last year we announced plans to relocate our visitor experience to the Tullamore distillery. We believe our new state-of-the-art facilities will provide a new rich and immersive experience for our visitors. “We are pleased to share that we have now started the planning permission process and we will provide further detail in due course. We remain committed to the town of Tullamore and we look forward to continuing to do our part to boost and sustain the local economy in the years ahead.”
